Message from Bishop
April 2001

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying,  "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 (NAS)

Do YOU Know Jesus?
Do You KNOW Jesus?
Do You Know JESUS?

Evangelism
In the Gospel of Matthew, the Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to do the following:

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 (NAS)

This commandment is particularly important this month as we celebrate what Jesus Christ did for us so that we may be saved.

However, many of us are not comfortable witnessing to unbelievers about salvation.  We have a good time in the company of believers, telling our stories of salvation, but fall short when it comes to the witnessing of the unsaved.  We may not feel comfortable about witnessing and evangelizing because of what others may think about us or we may not know how to evangelize.

Witnessing and bringing the unsaved to Christ comes in many forms.  When some hear the word "Evangelism", they think of somebody mightily proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the pulpit, on the television, radio or street corner.  Those are just several forms of evangelizing.  There are other ways of introducing the unsaved to the Man of Salvation.

One simple question can assist you in evangelizing and make the person who you witnessed to responsible for the words they hear.  The question you can pose is:

DO YOU KNOW JESUS?

Words affect people, even simple words.  The words, "Do You Know Jesus?" are simple yet powerful.  Just asking the question doesn't require an answer from the other person.  Yet, it does require the person to consider and think about the question.  They may dismiss it at first, but the question will remain with them.  At some time, they will have to deal the question.

Let me make one very important point.  The question, "Do You Know Jesus?" is not about the Plan of Salvation.  It is about the Man of Salvation.  Many people know the Plan of Salvation as given in John 3:16-17 and Romans 10:9-10:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
John 3:16-17 (KJV)

That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-10 (NKJ)

However knowing the Plan of Salvation does not mean you know the Man of Salvation.  The words of the Plan of Salvation are meaningless without the relationship with the Man of Salvation.

Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven.  Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?'  And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.'
Matthew 7:21-23 (NAS)

Examine yourself first.
Ask yourself three times, "Do You Know Jesus?"
He is there waiting for you.

Then ask somebody three times, "Do You Know Jesus?", and let the Holy Spirit take control.
