Message from Bishop
July 2001
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 (NAS)

No Greater Love
From Memorial Day through the end of summer, we constantly
celebrate the personal sacrifices made by those Americans who performed their
duty to ensure freedom for this country and for the personal freedom of peoples
in foreign lands. In The Gospel of John, Jesus summarized what the personal
sacrifice is all about:
Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.
John 15:13 (NKJ)
All of our veterans made a commitment to lay down their lives
for us regardless of their job in the military. They stood fast in the
face of death and danger and demonstrated the courage to complete the task that
they vowed to do. They did this not for their own personal glory but to
stand between us and the tyranny of slavery.
In examining John 15:13, Jesus is also declaring His love for
us as He foreshadows His own death. In that sentence, He declares His love
for us as He tells us what He was going to do for us. Laying down His life
was an act of love for us. He died so that we may be saved. He died
so that we may believe in Him and be reconciled with our Heavenly Father.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
John 3:16 (NAS)
...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Romans 10:9-13 (NKJ)
So this month, think about the three types of sacrifices - the
sacrifices that our veterans made for us and the Sacrifices that our Heavenly
Father and Jesus Christ made for you. Seek out a veteran and thank them
for what they did for our country. Seek out your Heavenly Father and Jesus
Christ and thank each of Them for what They did for you. If you have not
accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, read John 15:13, John 3:16,
and Romans 10:9-13 again. Our Heavenly Father is here presenting you
with the gift of salvation at no cost to you. All you must do is confess
with you mouth and believe that our Heavenly Father raised Jesus Christ from the dead for
you and invite Jesus Christ in your heart to be your personal Lord and Savior. Jesus has already paid the price for this gift. He paid the
price with His love by laying down His life for you.
