Message from Bishop
September 2001
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 (NAS)

September 11, 2001
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh
me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's
sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will
fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest
my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for
ever.
Psalms 23:1-6 (KJV)
There are times in our nation's history when we
look up to the heavens and ask "Why?"
In recent times we have experienced national
tragedies such as:
December 7, 1941 - The Attack on Pearl Harbor
January 28, 1986 - The Challenger Explosion
April 19, 1995 - The Oklahoma City Bombing
In each instance, we have asked,
"Why?"
September 11, 2001 will be one of those events,
just like the above, that will shape our nation collectively and is a turning
point for our nation's faith.
In each of the above instances, our nation's
faith was strengthen.
September 11, 2001 is also such an event.
We may never understand why the attacks on the
World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the hijackings occurred while we are on
this earth. We are comforted by what St. Paul tells us in I Corinthians
13:12:
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then
FACE to FACE; now I know in PART, but then I shall know FULLY just as I also
have been fully known.
1 Corinthians 13:12 (NAS)
When we come face to face with Jesus, all will
be revealed to us.
In the meantime, consider Psalms 23 as invoked
by President Bush. Let the LORD be your Shepherd. Let Him comfort
you.
Pray for the families of the dead and missing.
Pray for those injured. Pray for the rescuers. Pray for all of the
medical personnel. Pray for our leaders for wisdom. Pray for our
nation.
