Message from Bishop
June 2002

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying,  "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 (NAS)

Bishop and Mrs. Vernice Seriale, Sr.

How can I gain Faith?

There are many ways to gain faith.  Here are 8 ways that you and I can gain faith.

Faith Given

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.
(Romans 12:3 NIV)

God has given all of us a measure of faith.

Hearing The Word of God

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
(Romans 10:17 KJV)

And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
(1 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV)

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God and allowing it to do a work in you.

Faith through Scriptures

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
(Romans 15:4 NAS)

Faith was gained in New Testament times by reading Old Testament scriptures.  We have the blessing of being able to read the entire Word of God.

Faith through Process

For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "The just shall live by faith."
(Romans 1:17 NKJ)

You can gain faith through a process.

  • The unbeliever can gain faith through hearing somebody preaching

  • The new believer can gain faith by seeing someone else's faith

  • The mature believer can gain faith by seeing what the Lord has done in their life.

Faith through Tribulation

Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
(Romans 5:3-5 NIV)

Tribulation produces endurance.  Endurance produces character.  Character produces faith to endure life's other tribulations.

Faith through Reflection

When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
(John 2:22 KJV)

And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
(John 14:29 KJV)

In our limited minds, we cannot see or understand what God is doing in our lives.  Rather than looking forward, we can reflect on our past and a remember what God has done for us. If He has done it before, He Can do it again.

Knowing Your Hope

But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
(1 Peter 3:15 NIV)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
(Hebrews 11:1 KJV)

Faith can be gained by knowing your hope and realigning it with Christ.

Asking for Increases in Faith

And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.
(Luke 17:5 KJV)

You can ask for increases in your faith.  But be aware, there is always a cost of receiving an increase in anything.

  • A big house costs more money.

  • A promotion to a new grade in school costs a lesson [tribulation] and a test that must be passed.
